May 12 Drive update: DRIVE CANCELED!
I have been diligently watching the weather forecast for Bremerton and parts West. Things look poor for a safe enjoyable drive on Sunday. There are lots of tight and blind corners and what could be slippery roads. Considering the danger and to be sure to meet club insurance coverage and after some discussion last night we agreed it would be best to reschedule. Currently I am looking at May 21 or 22 pending some feedback. Watch for an update and confirmation of the date soon.

Update: May11,2022
Drive starting point is still Union 76 station, but meetup time is 9:00 am with departure expected at 9:20 am. Stage 1 is approximately 40 miles and time will depend on how many view and photo time we spend.
Stage 2 will head back North along a busy route beside the Hood Canal. Then North and West again on our way to Seabeck. We stopped there for a bite of food and relaxed with a view of the Canal. Then its decision time on which route you will want to take back.
I clocked 128 mi on the Peninsula on Monday and I think Joe probably did another 100 miles plus from home to Bremerton and back home. It is possible to shorten the route if you need to. Email me for information or questions and route maps.Drive leader and contact: Don Pappe

Early morning drive to Bremerton and the 80 miles of strictly two lane back roads. Those of us might want to catch the 7:25 ferry  to meet up point in Bremerton. Depart Bremerton about (10:00) NOW 9:00 and head to East side of the peninsula and the south to far end. Turnaround and head for Seabrook before turning toward Bremerton. Stops for Lunch and photos. The day goes by fast. (More Details to follow)

MARYHILL LOOPS ROAD WEEKEND @ Maryhill Museum
Jun 12 all-day

Update: June 12, 2022

Two day trip for most of the 14 drivers and three other members. Stayed overnight  in    The Dalles after an informal gathering for dinner. Sunday morning started for some before the 9:00 departure to Stonehenge for the above photo. Then off to the Loops road. We completed as many runs up the hill as each member wanted to.The rain forecast waiting until we were getting done. The members took different routes home and reported fun road back to Seattle area, I personally had an epic drive north up the Old Yakima Canyon road.  Evernote is enthusiastic to do it again.

DRIVE: Mt t Helens w/ Ken Lindsey @ Start: QFC in Enumclaw
Aug 27 @ 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
Drive back roads to Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mount St. Helens.
Start at QFC parking lot at 1009 Monroe Ave., Enumclaw. Plan to leave at 8:30am.
This will be a long day and drive, but with plenty of gas and snack stops along the way. Approximately 230 scenic miles.
Here are some things that you might want to bring:
Cooler with water, snacks, lunch.
Hat, sunscreen lotion, camp chair (for lunch).
2-way radios, binoculars (for the views) and your phone (or camera) for pics.
Jacket or long sleeve shirt (never know what the weather will be like).
See the link below for route.
This will be a scenic drive through towns like Kapowsin, Eatonville, Elbe, Morton, Mossyrock, Toledo, and Toutle, to name a few. We will stop along the way for pit stops, food/gas, and scenic views and pictures.
With any luck and good timing, we should get to the observatory center around noon time for lunch and time to explore the area and views.
Word of caution, there is no shade there (except inside) so plan accordingly. The parking and walking areas are free, but the center inside is $8. I encourage you to pay the small fee and see all of the exhibits.
Lunch there is either bring your own or buy a hot dog, hamburger, chips/snacks, drinks etc. from the food trailer at the Observatory. Be prepared to pay the price though.
Then, we will head back to Morton to the Timber Patch Brewing & Taproom for adult beverage and pizzas.
NOTICE: This is a 21+ establishment so if you are under 21 and plan to go, please let me know and I will see what we can do for you.
This will be our last official stop for this drive. From here, there are several routes that we can chose; it all depends on time and how far you have to go to head home. You can take the straight I-5 route or we can find some more back roads home.

DRIVE: RIVERS 2 SUSHI RUN @ Southwest Washington Back roads
Sep 24 all-day
Safeway on Whitesell 8:00 AM Orting Wa
We have worked on this route for some time now and feel it is ready to share with you all. We sorted out a number of back roads, side roads and side loops to make a fun and scenic route. See the “discussion” tab for the maps
We will meet in Orting at the Safeway Parking lot, the address is 215 Whitesell St NW Orting.
We would like to arrive around 8:00 and have a drivers meeting then try and head out by 8:30.
This is a long route and will take most of the day. We have planned stops for bathroom breaks and leg stretches. More details about that below.
We will be updating info as the start time gets closer about the weather and stops. Basically it is the same gear suggestions snacks and drinks, chairs, jackets etc. I highly recommend the two way radios. It is a good way to call out stops or if issues arise we can all know what is going on. I think Don has a few extra I have two and I think some other might as well.
The first part of this run kind of follows Ken’s run to Mt. Saint Helens a few days ago. but we will continue East from Elbe and make our way down to Packwood. There is a good coffee place there where we can bathroom break and get some go juice if desired. There is gas in Packwood if needed, they should be having a farmers market this day too.
We follow 12 West but cut off on to some side loops. There is one side cut to Riffe Lake that has a good photo op, but it will need some set up I will discuss this more in Packwood.
Back to more side roads West to Cinebar, then SW to Lunch at Mrs. Beesley’s Burgers by I5.
(We will be test eating here soon and will call it good or bad, so there might be a change.
This leg is 4 hr drive not including all the stops.
After lunch there is gas on the West side of I5. From here out, it is all back country roads. Adna has Ethanol Free gas if desired. At Ingalls Rd we head East to Galvin for another cool photo op.
There is a tavern near here if you all would like to stop for a cold delicious adult beverage.
Back Westward past near our house on all back roads to Oakville. A short run on 12W and we enter the Capital Forest on D-Line. Slower here but super scenic. Perhaps some photo ops in here too.
We exit the forest in Boudeaux near The Mima Mounds I spoke of at the last drive. There is a park there but Discover Passes are required. We can discuss more about stopping here.
We then head North to Olympia where we would like to stop and eat at the Sushi House for Susan’s birthday. This second leg is about 3 hrs not including any stoppage time.
Over all this is 6 hours and 45 minutes driving not including all the stops per the maps. Around 265 miles for the run plus your drive to get there and back. We have plotted additional rest stops at roughly every hour if anyone needs a potty break. Another reason for the radios.
After Sushi we split up and head to respective homes. 101 to I5 is the easiest for most.
We head south back home on backroads again, cuz that’s how we roll.
Please feel free to ask questions or make suggestions. This is my first planned drive and I may have miss a detail or two.

Looking forward to Z’ing you all for a fun day of driving Z’s
